Elli loves books!

Elli loves to look at books. We have baskets of her books in her room and in the living room, and she will often go to these baskets, take her books out, and "read" them to herself. Then she will bring the books to us, hold the book up, and say "eh, eh, eh", which is her current way to ask for, well, just about anything. :-)

The class that she attends on Wednesday mornings at school is based on books. Every 6 weeks they choose a new book to focus on. They decorate the room to match the theme of the book, they read the book during class, they sing songs that match the theme of the book, and they do activities for the book. They also send home lists of vocabulary to work on that are from the book. (The primary need of the kids that attend the class is speech, so working on words is huge for them.) Since Elli started attending class, they've done All By Myself, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Dinosaur Roar, and One Duck Stuck. This 6 weeks, the book is "The Big Red Barn" by Margaret Wise Brown. Ms. April always finds out what book it is and tried to make sure Elli has her own book to look at during class (instead of just looking at the book read by the teacher, like the other students do). Since this book has very small, busy pictures, Ms. April actually made Elli her own book, where all the important parts of the pictures are enlarged. She then laminated the book and bound it. Elli LOVES it! She "reads" it regularly, and often requests that we read it to her.

We are so excited that Elli loves to read and be read to! I love the picture of her reading to herself in the hallway...I used to have a little girl that loved to look at books, and now I can never find her because she's sitting reading somewhere!! And what a blessing Ms. April is to you all! She sounds like a wonderful answer to your prayers to be able to help prepare Elli for life in school! :)
