1 Year Well-baby Checkup

We had Elli's one-year well-baby checkup 2 weeks ago. She was 15 lbs. 9 oz. and 27 1/2 inches long. Her height was back on the growth chart at the 10th percentile again (which was encouraging), but her weight is still less than the zeroth percentile. The doctor said that, other than her low weight, everything looked good. He said, "You know, if we didn't have scales or growth charts, we wouldn't think a thing was wrong with her. She's proportional, she's obviously happy, she's active, and she's an absolutely beautiful child. She's meeting her other developmental milestones really well, especially given the visual impairment." That was encouraging for me to hear!

One funny note: As many of you know, Elli often will say "YAY!" and clap when she hears others clap or when she's excited about something. She also will do that if she's done something that she thinks deserves praise. :-) I had been trying to get her to do it for her doctor, but of course she wouldn't perform on command.

Then, the doctor looked at her and said, "You know, if you started eating some solid food and gaining some weight, we'd just leave you completely alone." At which point, she looked at him, smiled, clapped her hands, and said, "YAY!!!"

That's hilarious!! Now, if she'll just start eating so you'll all have a reason to say "Yay!"!! Sounds like you're all tired of doctor appointments...it's good to hear that you're gaining some good information, even if some of that info isn't necessarily positive at this point. Hang in there! We love reading all the updates...they give us good, specific ways to pray for you all! Give Elli a big squeeze for us! Love you!
